Deyanira Garzon Calahorrano

 With deep sorrow, we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Deyanira Garzon Calahorrano, fondly known as Dee, who peacefully departed from this world on March 27, 2024. She drew her last breath surrounded by her loving family in her hometown of Brookfield, CT. Dee was a devoted wife to Oswaldo Calahorrano, a nurturing mother to daughters Ivy Joanna Antonio and Jennifer Jackson, and a cherished grandmother to Faith, Isabella, and Anabella. She also leaves behind her sisters and brother Doris, Consuelo, Martha, Clara, Myrian, Patricia, Jorge, and Claudia.

Born to Jorge Enrique Garzon and Anna Delia Garzon on March 16, 1947, in Chinquiquira, Colombia, Dee embarked on a brave journey to the United States at the age of 19. Overcoming language and cultural barriers, she embraced her new homeland, celebrating its freedom and opportunities. Proudly patriotic, Dee passionately defended her adopted country, shaping her identity as a strong, independent woman. She met Oswaldo Calahorrano in an evening English class in Stamford, CT, and they married on November 30, 1968, a union that endures beyond her passing. Dee's mother, Ana Delia Garzon, draws strength from her faith to navigate the loss of her eldest child among her eight surviving siblings.

Dee exemplified the essence of maternal sacrifice as she courageously battled cancer for 13 years, often with silent fortitude. Her unwavering dedication to her family was a testament to her strength and resilience. Despite her trials, Dee maintained her grace, compassion, and love for beauty, family, and friends, expressing gratitude for a life enriched with diverse experiences.

Dee found joy in gardening, travel, literature, art, and fashion, always eager to embrace new experiences and connect with diverse souls. Her warmth and light touched the lives of all who knew her, whether family, friends, neighbors, or strangers.

She leaves behind a void that cannot be filled and will be deeply missed. For those who wish to pay their respects, a Catholic funeral mass will be held on Tuesday, April 2, 2024, at 11 am at St. Marguerite Bourgeoys Church, 138 Candlewood Lake Rd., Brookfield, CT. The mass will also be virtual for those living far and cannot attend. Link to come.

La madre de Dee, Ana Delia Garzón, encuentra fuerzas en su fe para enfrentar la pérdida de su hija mayor entre sus ocho hermanos sobrevivientes. Dee ejemplificó la esencia del sacrificio maternal mientras luchaba valientemente contra el cáncer durante 13 años, a menudo con fortaleza silenciosa. Su dedicación inquebrantable a su familia fue un testimonio de su fuerza y ​​resiliencia.
