Claire Sloan Obituary

Claire Fox Sloan, 89, of Columbia, Maryland, longtime resident of Ridgefield, died peacefully on Friday, February 16, 2024. She was the loving wife of the late Vincent Sloan.

Claire was born in Boston, Massachusetts on December 31, 1934. Known by her loved ones for her gentle demeanor, wise advice and great sense of humor. Remembered as gentle, funny and wise, she was always there for advice, support and love. Selfless to a fault, she set a wonderful example of how to love unconditionally. She always set an example of quiet faith and devotion to our Lord, as well as a devotion to the blessed mother. An avid reader of history and fiction, she was also very creative and enjoyed painting and drawing in her spare time. She had a spirit for adventure and as a young mom she learned to horseback ride and bravely competed in equestrian jumping events while living in Ohio.

After moving to Connecticut in the 1972, she decided the family would take up skiing, which began their years of ski adventures in New England and out west. While living in Connecticut, she and her family loved their frequent ski trips and Christmas vacations at their place in Northern Vermont. Claire was a resident of Ridgefield, CT for 30 years where she and her husband built a beautiful retirement home.

Growing up in Jamaica Plain, Boston she was the sixth of seven girls, raised by Irish immigrants Frank and Susan Fox from County Donegal. She remembered her youth with great fondness and talked endlessly in her final years about missing her dear parents and sisters. She is finally at rest and embraced by the family she adored so much.

Predeceased by her husband Vincent, parents Frank and Susan Fox and sisters Mary, Ann, Margaret, Bernadette, Trudy and Susan. She is survived by her son David Sloan, son Chris Sloan(daughter-in-law Mary Kay Sloan) and daughter Hillary Sloan Ingham(son-in law-John Ingham). As well as her 6 grandchildren Daniel, Kelsey, Amanda, Carolyn, Lauren and Annelise. We eternally thank God for giving us such a wonderful mother and Nana.
