Longtime teacher at Scotland Elementary School, Christine Garbarino, died on Thursday November 13.
As a girl and young woman, Chris volunteered for many years in the Civil Air Patrol, a service organization in her hometown of Bayonne, New Jersey. She attended Jersey City State University, from which she graduated in 1964, with a degree in Elementary Education. She held tenured positions in Teaneck, New Jersey, Hyde Park, New York and Ridgefield.
While teaching in Teaneck, she met and married Dr. Paul Garbarino, a Physicist with IBM. They moved to Ridgefield in the Spring of 1975 where their daughter, Nicole was born later that year. While in Ridgefield, she completed a Masters Degree in Elementary Level Reading at Western Connecticut State University. She was very active in several local social organizations.
Chris was blessed with many friends, colleagues, promising students and their grateful parents during her years here.
She is survived by Paul, Nicole, her son-in-law Joseph Shepter and two grandchildren.
A memorial mass will be celebrated on Saturday, February 28, 2026 at 10:00 AM in Saint Mary's Church; 55 Catoonah Street, Ridgefield. Kane Funeral Home is in care of arrangements.
