Christine Cohen Obituary

Christine Mary Cohen, 28, of Wilton, passed away on Wednesday, July 22, 2020, thirty-four months after being diagnosed with Stage 4 colon cancer. She was the beloved daughter of Jay and Joan (Giunco) Cohen and sister of Caroline Cohen. Christine leaves behind treasured aunts, uncles, cousins, friends and her grandmother, Annette.

Christine graduated from Wilton High School in 2009. She loved singing with the Madrigals and being in the school musical productions. Christine graduated from the College of Saint Benedict in 2013 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education. There, she was in the Saint Benedict/St. John’s University choir, touring through Europe in the summer of 2014 and singing with the choir at the annual Christmas concert at the Basilica of Saint Mary in Minneapolis. Her college highlights included studying abroad in London, working as an events coordinator for the college, student teaching, and displaying her school spirit at Johnny football games.

After graduation, she was the school substitute teacher for the Roger Sherman Elementary School in Fairfield, CT, for one year. She started working for the Barteca restaurant chain in Westport and was on the team that opened new restaurants. She then became the floor manager for the company’s restaurant in Reston, VA. Following Christine’s cancer diagnosis, she was unable to work for a period of time. Intent on getting back to work, she displayed her energy and commitment as the Sales Director for the 4JGs Orchards and Vineyard in Colt’s Neck, NJ, and as an administrative assistant for Cross Ocean Partners in Greenwich.

Before and after her diagnosis, Christine had a passion for traveling, retail therapy, seeing musicals in New York, all things Harry Potter, and Pittsburgh’s sports teams. She loved laughing and having adventures with her friends, family and, most especially, with her best friend and sister, Caroline.

Christine was determined to raise money to support research and treatment for rare cancers in young adults. She organized Tine’s Team and Tine’s Squad to support Fred’s Team at MSK. In February, Christine and her friends and family sponsored a team for Cycle for Survival in NYC, to raise money for cancer research. There, Christine willingly shared her cancer story to motivate and remind us to live life to the fullest. Shortly before her passing, she was asked to tape a podcast for MSK Cancer Straight Talk. Her compassion to help and inspire others gave Christine the strength to do the podcast.

Her family would like to thank all of the family and friends who have been with her throughout this journey, with a special shout out to Christine’s “A Team” at MSK for their care and compassion.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Christine’s memory may be made to support research at MSK into the diagnosis and treatment of rare cancers in young adults.
