An advocate for Ability Beyond, Chad served for several years on People First's national board, helping others learn to speak up for themselves. In 2022, Chad was unanimously elected to serve as Treasurer.

He has also worked with the League of Women Voters on drives to encourage people with disabilities to register to vote and was a kettle worker for the local Salvation Army.

In 2010, he was appointed by then-Gov. M. Jodi Rell to the State Board of Protection and Advocacy for Persons with Disabilities, which advises the Office of Protection and Advocacy for persons with Disabilities.

In 1991, Chad was recognized by and was the recipient of the Long Beach Advocacy Award from the Long Beach City Council and the Civic Award from the Long Beach Chamber of Commerce. Additionally, Chad was recognized and honored by WeCAHR for his work.
