Catherine Mary Elizabeth Malmborg, daughter of Kay Connolly & Jim O’Brien, passed away on December 18th, 2021 after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease.
“Betty” was raised in Manhattan, New York before returning to Knock, Ireland to attend grammar school.
After returning to the United States, Betty attended catholic schools. She married Floyd Malmborg in 1951 and the couple raised seven children together. After raising her children, she returned to school in her forties to achieve her lifelong dream of becoming a nurse, graduating first in her class. She continued working as a nurse for the next twenty years in Danbury Hospital, New Milford Nursing Home, and private duty.
Her interests included gardening, camping in Montauk, skiing, art, sewing, and spending time with her family.
Betty also loved to travel and would take any willing party with her. A favorite destination of hers was the South Hampton Princess in Bermuda. She had a strong love of animals, having many dogs and housing any stray that her children happened to bring home over the years. Betty was a mom to many, not just her own children. The door to her home was always open. There was always a meal, cup of coffee, or short stay for any visitor.
Catherine was predeceased by husband Floyd Malmborg, husband Gene Coogan, and son Peter.
She leaves behind her sister, Joan Fischer, and her children: Floyd Malmborg and wife Sue, Carolyn Lockwood, Connie Yacavone and husband Michael, Leslie Rajcula and husband Joseph, Andrea Rynn and husband Joseph, Laura Malmborg and Phil Huber.
She also leaves her grandchildren: Lindsey Goliber, Floyd Malmborg III, Peter Lockwood, Benjamin Yacavone, Cody Yacavone, Annalee Yacavone, Joseph Rajcula, Nicholas Rajcula, Ian Rajcula, Jack Rynn, and Peter Rynn.
Betty’s family would like to give a special thanks to the many nurses and caregivers at Candlewood Valley Nursing Home for their care.
