Boyd Malkin Obituary

Boyd Wesley Malkin, age 65 of Ridgefield, CT, passed away peacefully in his sleep next to the love of his life on Tuesday, May 9, 2023. He was born on November 11, 1957 in Norwalk, CT, the son of Marie (Hargreaves) and the late Boyd W. Malkin, Sr. The family lived in Wilton, and in 1980 Boyd married the "girl next door", Dawn (Thoele) Malkin. They lived in Norwalk for several years and then settled back in Wilton for a number of years where they raised their two daughters. They moved to Ridgefield in 2009, and earlier this year celebrated their 43rd wedding anniversary.

After graduating from Wilton High School, Boyd worked at Wilton Motors, first as a mechanic, and later as the service manager. He worked as the property manager at The Montessori School in Wilton, and then as the property manager of an estate in Ridgefield. He had worked for a number of years at Mr. Mailbox, and most recently was employed at NAPA Auto Parts Plus in Wilton. Boyd was a longtime member of Zion’s Hill United Methodist Church, where he was head of the trustees and also held the position of property manager. He was always able to fix things, and just knew how they worked. Boyd helped friends and family build decks, and loved any woodworking projects. He was an EMT in Wilton for a number of years and loved it. He was always ready to help out wherever, whenever needed. The only sport he was ever interested in was any type of auto racing, particularly NASCAR. After many years being married to a racing fan, Dawn eventually started enjoying the sport, too, and they went to several NASCAR Cup series races together, and watched them faithfully on TV every weekend.  Boyd also loved boating and the whole family enjoyed being out on the Sound on Dawn's parents’ boat. His whole family, especially his daughters and then his grandsons, always meant the world to him and he never hesitated to tell them how proud he was of anything they did. He was known for his great hugs!

Boyd is survived by his wife, Dawn; mother, Marie (Paul Restuccia) Weber; daughters, Erin Theodor and Amy (David Mayfield) Malkin; grandsons, Casey Theodor, Morgan Theodor, and Wade Mayfield; sisters, Dawn Grant and Sharon Kaestner; mother-in-law, Joan Thoele; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Janice (George Goodridge) Dunn and Brian (Susan) Thoele; nieces and nephews, Samantha Grant, James Grant, Caitlin Kaestner, Alexander (Tara) Grant, Noah (Stucke) Grant, Jennifer (Matthew) Sicsico, and Andrew Dunn; and great-nieces and great-nephews, Jessica, Clayton, Matthew, and Addison. He was preceded in death by his father, Boyd Malkin, Sr.; father-in-law, Norman Thoele; and brothers-in-law, Allen Grant and Joseph Kaestner, Jr.

Family and Friends will be received on Friday, May 12, 2023 from 5 pm to 7 pm at Kane Funeral Home, 25 Catoonah Street, Ridgefield, CT.
