Bonnie Wright Obituary

Margaret Ann  “Bonnie” Wright, 84, of Ridgefield, died on August 13th, 2024, at Greenwich Hospital. Bonnie was born in Larchmont, NY, on November 16, 1940, the first child of the late David H. and Anne M. (Marchand) Wright. She attended local schools in Darien, CT, and graduated with a degree in business from Skidmore College in 1962.

Bonnie went straight from college into the family business, the internationally known English saddlery and leather goods shop, M. J. Knoud Saddlery, that once graced the west side of Madison Avenue between 63rd and 64th Streets in New York City. Founded by her great-uncle, a migrant from Ireland who had arrived in this country in 1877, it passed into the hands of a second generation in 1929, survived the Depression, and rose to its glory as New York’s Upper East Side transformed into an upscale environment of townhouses, boutiques and mansions. Half museum, half emporium, M. J. Knoud suited its elegant neighborhood to perfection and developed a clientele of multi-generational customers from all over the world. Bonnie worked with her father for years running M. J. Knoud, then carried on after his retirement.

Known as a kind heart, Bonnie lit a spark in all people she came across. She was witty, sharp, interested in knowing what was happening in the world, and had a fantastic memory. She may have put things off for a little bit later but often came back around and got things done. Although stubborn and fiercely independent, she was also very kind, leaving notes and small gifts to celebrate birthdays and other special events or just to say thank you. She will be missed. In her early morning travels in her green classic Range Rover and in her latest white Chevrolet SUV, Bonnie would start down towards Darien making her pit stops all the way back to Ridgefield, leaving knick knacks, trinkets and homemade creations, giving and leaving smiles on every doorstep as she made her daily runs...with a good cup of coffee and small nibble of some sort of breakfast treat that was all that she needed to get her day going.

Bonnie had a quick wit and charming. A personal magnetism that immediately connected her with others. She loved to spend time at the beach in Darien and Westport, and at fine Ridgefield restaurants together with friends.

She is survived by her sister, Nancy Wright Grosssman, her nephew, Seamus Curvin Grossman and many friends. She was predeceased by her parents, and brother Andy
