Bernard P. Gallo Sr.

Bernard “Bernie” Gallo, 86, of Danbury, husband of Margaret “Marge” (Kopp) Gallo, died on Tuesday morning, June 11, 2024, at Danbury Hospital shortly after his admission.

Mr. Gallo was born in Danbury on January 26, 1938, a son to Benjamin and Angela (Spano) Gallo.  He attended Danbury schools and graduated from Danbury High School with the Class of 1955.


A U.S. Army veteran, Mr. Gallo enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1956 and was honorably discharged in 1959 attaining the rank of Specialist 5.

In early years, Mr. Gallo was a surveyor assistant, a machinist, a was employed  with the former Amphenol Corporation as an engineer.

Upon his retirement, Mr. Gallo attained his real estate license and was an owner of Gallo Realty real estate brokerage company of Danbury.

A lifelong Danbury resident, he was a member of the Phoenix Volunteer Fire Dept. serving four terms as their captain, currently a member of Battalion 19.

Active in Danbury politics, Mr. Gallo served as a member of the former Danbury Common Council, a former member of Danbury Democratic Town Committee having served as a past chairman, currently serving as chairman of the City of Danbury Environmental Impact Commission.

He was a member of St. Gregory the Great Church and served as a Eucharistic Minister and Usher.

 

A joy of Bernie’s was the time he and Marge spent on Cape Cod.

In addition to his wife Marge of thirty-years, he is survived by a son Christopher Gallo and his wife Christina of Wake Forest, NC, two daughters, Susan Little of Brookfield, CT and Beth Chemero of No. Brookfield, MA, two brothers Frank Gallo and his wife Stephanie of Bethel, CT and David Gallo and his wife Robyn of Bonita Springs, FL, a sister Maria Beckwith and her husband George of Jensen Beach, FL, ten grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Gallo was predeceased by a son Bernard P. Gallo Jr. and by a sister Paulette Najam Cherniske.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, June 14, 2024 at 11 a.m. in St. Gregory the Great Church, 85 Great Plain Rd., Danbury.

Interment will follow in St. Peter Cemetery, Danbury, with military honors.

Friends will be received in the Jowdy-Kane Funeral Home, 9 Granville Ave., Danbury on Thursday from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.
