Apostolos Baldoumis, 93, of Bloomfield CT, formerly of Danbury, died April 17, 2022.
“Paul” passed away in his home in Bloomfield, CT after a long battle with cancer.
He was predeceased by his parents, Vasilli Baldoumis and Persephone Baldoumis (Barberis), his sisters, Katie, Maria, Mina, and Georgia, and brother John.
He is survived by his son Michael Baldoumis, daughter-in-law Cathy Baldoumis and many nieces and nephews in Greece.
Born in Volos, Greece he joined the Greek Navy after WWII. He immigrated to Canada in 1954 and after taking various jobs across the provinces he worked for 6 years in the Northwest Territories at a uranium mill. He moved to Queens, NY in 1960 where he met his predeceased wife Evelyn and was married in 1963. He worked as a diesel engine mechanic in New York and eventually moved to Danbury, CT in 1978, where he resided for 30 years.
After retiring in 1993, he worked at a grocery store in Brookfield until 2007. After his wife died he moved in with his son and daughter-in-law in Bloomfield CT where he grew as many tomato plants as he could. He loved gardening, cooking (with olive oil and lemon juice), and reminding everyone that Greek is the origin of all languages. He will be greatly missed.
The family will receive friends on Monday, April 25, 2022, from 5-8 PM at Jowdy-Kane Funeral Home 9-11 Granville Avenue, Danbury.
The Rite of Burial will be held on Tuesday, April 26, 2022, at 10 AM at Assumption Greek Orthodox Church 30 Clapboard Ridge Road, Danbury CT.
Interment will follow in St. Peter Cemetery, Danbury.
