Anthony DeSalva Obituary

Anthony C. DeSalva, 92, of Redding, longtime former resident of Chappaqua, NY, and Cape May Point, NJ, died peacefully on Thursday, May 19, 2022, surrounded by his family.

Anthony was born in New York City on January 13, 1930, to Nicola and Frances (Caldarella) DeSalva. He was a proud graduate of Cardinal Hayes High School and later earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in History at Fordham University. After graduating in 1951, he was commissioned a second lieutenant in the United States Air Force, earning the rank of Major when he completed active duty in 1955. Following military service, he began a decades-long career in the insurance industry. While developing a non-profit in 1963 to provide microfinancing loans to entrepreneurs in Latin America and other emerging markets, he met Mary Otero, an international operations professional at W.R. Grace & Co., who was assigned to give him support and guidance. They married in 1964 and shortly thereafter began raising a son and a daughter in Westchester County.

A resident of Redding, CT for the past seven years, Anthony was a parishioner of Sacred Heart Church in Georgetown, CT, and a past parishioner of St. Theresa Church in Briarcliff, NY. He was the devoted head of his loving family. Nothing brought him more joy than sharing the large and small moments of every phase of life with his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. He was unfailingly, passionately engaged in supporting the members of his family, tapping his considerable wisdom, conviction, and sense of fun and achievement to enrich their lives. Through the years, entire communities came to know and love Anthony for his spirit and dedication to his loved ones.

Anthony’s wife, Mary, passed away in 1996. He is survived by his daughter, AnnaMaria DeSalva; his son, John DeSalva and his wife, Jill; three grandchildren, Anthony DeSalva and his wife, Julia, Daniel DeSalva and his wife, Emily, and Carol Palanzo and her husband, Roger. He also is survived by four great grandchildren - Maria DeSalva, Grace DeSalva, James DeSalva, and Jacob Palanzo – as well as six nephews and four nieces.

In addition to his wife, Mary, Anthony was predeceased by his sister, Caroline Iovanna, a brother, Dr. Salvatore DeSalva, and a sister Agnes, who died when she was two years old.
