Ann Powers

Mrs. Ann Powers, 64, of Ridgefield, CT passed away on January 25, 2021 after a brief but hard-fought battle with pancreatic cancer. She was the loving wife of Edward J. Powers.

Ann was born in Bialystok, Poland on September 15, 1956 to the late Stephen and Irene Roszkowski. After immigrating to America at the age of 4, she was raised in New Hyde Park, Long Island with her siblings George, Ellie, Ray, and Terry. Ann learned the value of hard work at a young age and spent much of her adolescence working a variety of jobs, but always made it back home with her family for Sunday dinner. She graduated from New Hyde Park High School in 1974 and shortly thereafter began her career with Chemico in Manhattan.

Through gatherings with mutual friends, Ann met the man who swept her off her feet, Ed Powers. Ann and Ed were married in 1983 and put down roots in Ridgefield, CT in 1985 where they raised their children Chris, John, and Katie. 

For the last four decades, Ann was an active and passionate member of the Ridgefield community. She treasured the town in which she raised her three children and formed lasting friendships. Mrs. Powers was a parishioner of St. Mary’s Church.

Many of her friends have fond memories of pool parties at Ann’s house, and hanging out with her “hood” girls, a group of neighborhood bus-stop moms. Ann was a constant presence at the Ridgefield Golf Course both playing golf and working as a bookkeeper. She served on the Board of the Ridgefield Ladies Golf Association for several years, and never missed an opportunity to play a round of golf with her friends and family. Those who were lucky to golf with her would hear Ann remind them to “Just Grip It and Rip It!” as they walked up to the tee box. Most would agree that this added at least 15 yards to their drive.

Ann refereed both soccer and volleyball across Connecticut. She mentored and helped develop young or less experienced officials. She made dozens of lifelong friends through the strength of the officiating community. 

Ann was an energetic, generous, and loving person that would always show up to gatherings of friends and family with a smile that would light up the room. She brought enthusiasm to everything she did and lived her life to the fullest. She enjoyed exploring the world with Ed and recently took trips to Hawaii, Europe, Australia, and Southeast Asia. During the winter, she would cruise the Caribbean with her girlfriends and sister.  She will be deeply missed by all that had the pleasure of knowing her and was taken from the world far too soon. Every time a bottle of champagne pops open, we will always hear Ann’s “whoo hoo”.

Ann is survived by her husband Ed of 38 years and their three children: Chris Powers and his wife, Victoria; John Powers and his fiancé, Courtney; and Katie Powers and her boyfriend Adam. Ann is also survived by two grandchildren: James and Henry Powers; her sister, Terry Davis and her husband, William; and brother, Raymond Roszkowski and his fiancé Pat Campbell, and nearly 20 nieces and nephews she cared for deeply.  She was pre-deceased by her parents, sister Ellie Roszkowski and brother George Roszkowski.

Funeral services will be held privately. A memorial service and celebration of life will take place later when all can gather safely and without restriction. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Pan-Mass Challenge, where her son Chris will be participating in her honor and where 100% of donations go directly to the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute whose goal is to eradicate cancer; http://profile.pmc.org/CP0300.
