Ann Penn Obituary

Ann Penn, age 76, passed away peacefully on May 27, 2026. Born on December 27, 1949, in Bangkok, Thailand, Ann immigrated to the United States with her husband, Sonny, in the early 1970s in pursuit of a better life. Together they built a life centered on family, perseverance, and opportunity. Ann proudly became a U.S. citizen on December 10, 1999. Sonny, her beloved husband, passed away in 2015.

After arriving in the United States, Ann and Sonny first settled in the Maryland and Northern Virginia area. As they built their family and searched for a place to call home, they lived in Rochester, New York; Lexington, Kentucky; and Shrewsbury, Massachusetts, before finally settling in Farmingdale, New York, on Long Island in 1984. Following Sonny’s passing, Ann lived in Danbury, Connecticut, for a year before returning to Northern Virginia, where she enjoyed being closer to family and having access to the Asian food she loved so much.

Despite building her life in the United States, Ann remained deeply connected to her Thai roots. She looked forward to returning to Thailand each year to visit her beloved sister and spend time with her extended family, maintaining the close relationships that meant so much to her throughout her life.

Ann was a devoted mother and a loving grandmother whose grandchildren were the center of her life. She is survived by her son Jay Penn, his wife Deborah, and their children Jackson, Brandon, Dylan, and Preston; and by her son Vinny Penn, his wife Heather, and their daughters Ashley and Britney. She is also survived by her older sister and many beloved nieces and nephews in both Thailand and the United States.

Ann was known as the family’s number one lacrosse fan and rarely missed an opportunity to cheer on her grandchildren from the sidelines. She loved watching NFL football, enjoying great Asian food, playing ping pong with her grandsons, and shopping with her granddaughters. She was also a big gambler who loved betting on NFL football, spending time at the blackjack table, and playing "Break the Pot" at family gatherings. Nothing brought her more joy than being surrounded by family and making memories with her loved ones.

Ann’s life was defined by her resilience, her love for family, and the opportunities she created for future generations through her journey from Thailand to the United States. Her grandchildren were her greatest joy, and the love she shared with them will remain a lasting part of her legacy. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew her.
