Ann Buffone of New York, New York, passed away peacefully and surrounded by loved ones in Danbury, Connecticut on November 18, 2024. She was 85 years young.
Born in Little Neck, New York to the late John and Helen Castellano, she was raised in Great Neck. Upon graduation from Great Neck North High School, she married her soulmate, Xavier and together they raised two children, Joseph and Anthony. After 30 years as an educator, she retired from East Meadow High School and relocated to Manhattan, reveling in everything New York City had to offer.
In 2023, Ann suffered a series of strokes that extracted a toll, both cognitive and physical. But even after she lost the ability to speak, her love for her family shone in her eyes ever so brightly. For above all else she valued family and in her time of need, it was her family that acted with singular purpose. Her brother, John, brought to bear a lifetime of experience as a physician along with immense courage and determination instilled in him by the U.S. Navy. And as Ann had done for her own mother decades before, her children bathed her in the love and compassion she had so often shown them.
To her family, she leaves behind a simple but profound legacy – one of unconditional love and selflessness. Though temporarily diminished by her passing, all those whose lives she touched are forever enriched; for the life she led was, by any meaningful measure, exemplary. Brava Ann Buffone, Brava!
