Albert A. Taylor Jr., 67 of Danbury, husband of Laura (Smith) Taylor died peacefully surrounded by family on October 22, 2024, at Danbury Regional Hospice after a ten-month courageous battle with cancer.
Mr. Taylor was born in Danbury on May 1, 1957, a son of Angeline (Critelli) and Albert (Atallah) Taylor Sr. He attended Danbury Public Schools, of which he talked most about his time at Mill Ridge Elementary and of course being a proud graduate of Henry Abbott Technical High School, Class of 1975. At Abbott Tech, he played Varsity baseball for the Wolverines and took machine shop as his trade. He then became a maintenance mechanic with Kimberly Clark Corporation of New Milford for many years and then worked as a machinist with Advanced Fusion Systems in Newtown.
Albert, an avid Red Sox, Celtics and Jets fan, loved to play, watch, and coach sports throughout his life. After high school, he continued playing softball for many years with Tom’s Paint and Wallpaper in Danbury at Rogers Park and then with the Kent Diplomats in the New Milford Men’s league through the summer of 2023. Albert played basketball with Kimberly Clark in the New Milford Men’s 30 and older league in the 1990s and coached New Milford Babe Ruth Girls’ Softball and girls’ basketball for many years.
Albert always wanted to be surrounded by family and friends for whom he loved to entertain and cook, especially on holidays when Albert would prepare huge meals from scratch and his wife Laura would bake an array of desserts. At any family party you would find Albert cooking and serving others. In the 1990s, the Saturday nights Albert cooked at Jim Barberie's became special evenings for family and friends to gather.
Albert loved to travel to visit family and friends across the country, he often told stories about trips with his older sister, Theresa to visit relatives in Massachusetts, New York, Pennsylvania and New Jersey. Albert knew the family’s history and would share stories about relatives long since gone with his children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews, so that the next generations would know of their family’s history. He was a lifelong member of St. Anthony Maronite Catholic Church and was extremely proud of his Lebanese and Italian heritage.
Albert met the love of his life Laura in 1966, through her brother, Albert’s beloved best friend, the late Thomas Smith, Jr. Albert and Laura were true soul mates who married on June 17, 1978, and were by each other’s side always in their life journey.
In addition to his wife of forty-six years, he is survived by two daughters, Tabitha Taylor and Stephanie Taylor, five grandchildren, Blake, Angie, Albert, Skyann and Camden, and many nieces, nephews and cousins all of whom will miss him dearly. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a sister, Theresa Taylor and by a brother, Anthony Taylor.
Albert was beloved by his family and friends and his passing will leave a great void where his larger-than-life personality once filled the room, the sports field and the hearts of those who knew him.
Family and Friends will be received on Sunday, November 3, 2024 from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Saint Anthony Maronite Catholic Church; 17 Granville Avenue, Danbury.
