Alan Rockwell Obituary

Alan Woolsey Rockwell, 96, long-time resident of Ridgefield CT, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, August 31, 2025.

Born in Atlanta, Georgia on July 25, 1929, she grew up and graduated from high school in New Rochelle, NY and graduated from Vermont College in Montpelier VT.  She worked as a secretary for Oxford Paper Company on Park Avenue in New York City where she met her first husband, Van Buren Taliaferro. They lived in the City until their son, William Woolsey Taliaferro, was born and then moved to Bronxville NY.

She married her second husband, John C. Rockwell, and moved to Ridgefield CT in 1969. They lived in the same historic landmark house until her passing, predeceased by her husband in 2019, her brother Tom Woolsey and her sister Charlotte Woolsey Paddock.

She was an avid golfer and member of Waccabuc Country Club winning many tournaments while playing different clubs in Westchester and Fairfield Counties and had many golfing friends. She was also an enthusiastic gardener along with her husband John. She loved reading, needlepoint and traveling.

She is survived by her devoted son, William, niece Joan Paddock Rusin in Skaneateles NY and nephew Tom Paddock of Melbourne FL – children of her sister Charlotte Woolsey Paddock of Warwick NY and later Melbourne FL.

A memorial in celebration of Alan’s life will be held at a later date and her wishes are for cremation and her ashes spread with those of her husband John.
