Kathryn C. Usher

Kathryn C. Usher, 63, of Woodbury, formerly of Ridgefield and Wilton, wife of Gary W. Usher, died on Monday, June 28, 2010 at Danbury Hospital.

Mrs. Usher was born in Norwalk, CT, December 27, 1946 to Clesson and Josephine (Hughes) Chamberlain and raised in Wilton.

She attended Wilton schools and graduated Wilton High School in 1965 where she met Gary W. Usher of Wilton.  Kathryn and Gary married in 1967 and resided in Norwalk for a year and then moved to Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri when Gary was in the Army.

In 1975, they moved to Ridgefield and there they raised their family.

Mrs. Usher was employed by the Aldrich Museum of Contemporary Art as the museum administrative assistant for twelve years. She was also co-owner of Vision Optical located in Ridgefield.  Throughout the years, she was a volunteer for the Ridgefield school system, secretary for the PTA and she assisted with school fundraising events.

Mrs. Usher served as treasurer of the Eight Lakes Association and a member of St. Mary’s Church.

She has been a resident of Woodbury since 2006, relocating from Ridgefield. Kay worked as an Infant/Toddler educator at Taft High School in Watertown, CT.  She was also a member of the Woodbury Garden Club and she volunteered at the Woodbury Senior Center.

So loving, generous and creative, Kay always had a positive outlook on life; touching the hearts of everyone she met. She was our social butterfly and had the knack to initiate a conversation with anyone.  Her creativity soared, as she was a master cake baker and cake decorator.

An avid gardener and nature lover, she enjoyed watching humming birds and blue birds in her yard.

Kay was so devoted to her family.

Survivors include her husband, Gary Usher; daughter Tracy and granddaughter Aiden and daughter Jennifer Usher Bailey and her husband, John; her sister, Lois Kramer and her husband, Ray and a brother, Charles Chamberlain as well as many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, a sister, Eleanor Dube predeceased her.

The family will receive friends in the Kane Funeral Home, 25 Catoonah St., Ridgefield on Tuesday, July 6, 2010 from 4PM to 7PM.
